Your two stroke engine is a highly engineered piece of racing equipment capable of rpm's in the upper stratosphere. All those revs will wear out parts and cause premature failure to critical internal components.
A prudent maintainance schedule is the best way to avoid costly engine repairs and engine failure at the track. Keep careful records of the amount of run time on your engine. Clean the outer surfaces of the engine to promote better cooling. Remove the head and jug from the cases occasionally and clean the carbon deposits from the exhaust port, piston crown, and head. While your there look at the ring, make sure it is free in the land and not scoring the cylinder walls. Check for a cross hatch pattern on the cylinder walls. If you have no cross hatch in the walls it is a good guess that it's time to get some help.
By observing the patterns and wear inside your engine you can help your on track consistency and your racing budget. |

Now is the time to look at your engine before the weather gets warm and you want to go to the track.
If you did not drain the fuel in your tank it probably has turned to a gummy mess by now and the fuel line is hard as a rock.
It's raining and a good time for pre-season maintenance. |
